Genuine Mahogany Hardwood Lumber

Genuine Mahogany Imported Hardwood Lumber (Swietenia macrophylla) is considered the “true” mahogany when compared to African Mahogany.  It is grown throughout South and Central America and is also known as Honduras/Honduran Mahogany, “Big Leaf” Mahogany and South American Mahogany.

In the early 1990s, Costa Rica and the United States began petitioning the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) for the protection of Genuine Mahogany through study, conservancy and development of sustainable international trade recommendations. In 1995, Genuine Mahogany was added to the list of protected species which impacted the availability and price of Genuine Mahogany in United States.

In the last 20 years, supply channels have slowly reestablished themselves and adapted to the legal requirements for importation and sale of Genuine Mahogany. Prices remain high. Good quality lumber requires partnerships with reputable mills and brokers. TBM has worked hard to develop solid supplier partnerships in order to maintain a high, consistent quality of Genuine Mahogany for our door/window, architectural millwork, custom stair builders, fine furniture and musical instrument manufacturing customers.
